Festival di Open in Parma addresses youth emigration and disability rights

At the fourth edition of the Festival di Open in Parma, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed the issue of youth emigration and the “brain drain.” In a video message, Meloni emphasized the need to ensure that moving abroad is a choice for opportunity rather than a necessity due to lack of domestic options. She outlined four government pillars to support young people: quality training, stable employment, adequate wages, and affordable housing.

The festival also featured a preview of the documentary ‘Germogli,’ a collaboration with the Lega del Filo d’Oro focusing on deafblindness and disability autonomy. During the event, disability advocates and Rossano Bartoli, president of the foundation, discussed the transition of people with disabilities from passive recipients of care to active participants in society. Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli also provided a video message calling for a shift in perspective regarding disability rights and institutional cooperation.
