Festival Interceltique de Lorient adds new nautical jousting competition
The 55th edition of the Festival Interceltique de Lorient runs from 31 July to 9 August 2026 in Lorient, France, with an expected 950,000 visitors. Cornwall is the guest of honour, and the programme blends traditional Celtic music with contemporary rock and pop acts.
A new feature for 2026 is a nautical jousting tournament held on 6–7 August at the Lorient marina. Organized by the Amicale des Pêcheurs & Plaisanciers de Port‑Louis, the competition pits teams from Celtic regions—including England, Asturias, Brittany, Cornwall, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Galicia, Acadia and Australia—against each other in boat‑based duels.
The event adds a sporting dimension to the cultural festival, highlighting the maritime links among Celtic nations and offering spectators a novel spectacle alongside the music performances.
