Festival Kebudayaan Yogyakarta 2026 opens in Sleman

The Festival Kebudayaan Yogyakarta (FKY) 2026 officially commenced on September 13 at Lapangan Beran, Sleman. The festival, which runs until September 19, centers on the theme ‘AKSARA’ (Script), exploring language as a gateway to understanding identity, history, and social change.

Governor of DIY, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, officially opened the event and praised the organization for its orderliness and preparation. He noted that the historical location of the former Beran Sugar Factory was an appropriate setting for highlighting the region's cultural heritage. The opening ceremony featured traditional performances, including geguritan readings and musical contributions from Kunto Aji.

The week-long event offers a variety of free public activities, including traditional games, mobile libraries, film screenings, and local markets such as Pasar Pangkon. To manage the expected crowds, the Sleman Transportation Agency has implemented traffic diversions around the Denggung office complex and designated 21 parking areas for visitors.
