Festival Nicho opens registration for Black-authored films

The 8th Festival Nicho has opened registration for its competitive showcases, scheduled to take place from November 20 to 28 in São Paulo. Organized by NICHO54, the festival is dedicated to contemporary cinema by Black authors.

Registration is open until September 27 for three specific categories: ‘Coisa de Preto’ for feature films over 60 minutes, ‘Os Cria’ for short films up to 30 minutes, and ‘Erês do Mundo’ for children and youth shorts up to 30 minutes. The festival aims to select five features and eleven shorts in total.

Eligible works must have been completed since 2024 and must not have been part of previous editions of the festival. While films previously shown at other festivals or online are eligible, they cannot have been broadcast on open television or streaming platforms in Brazil. The selection process prioritizes directorial vision as the primary criterion for defining Black authorship.
