Festival Política returns to Loulé to mark 50 years of the Portuguese Constitution
The Festival Política returns to Loulé from October 22 to 24, featuring 17 free activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic. The program uses various artistic mediums, including theater, music, humor, cinema, and exhibitions, to examine the practical meaning of constitutional rights in daily life.
Key events include Mariana Martins’s “Artigo 1.º,” a reimagining of the constitutional text, and Sara Barros Leitão’s monologue “Nós, Sozinhas,” which explores the social mobilization surrounding the decriminalization of abortion. Other scheduled performances include spoken word by D’sousa, a stand-up show by drag artist Sincera Mente, and a film session titled “Corpos em Trânsito” focusing on social periphery and historical decisions in Portugal.
While much of the festival is centered at the Cineteatro Louletano, activities will also take place in Quarteira and the UNESCO-recognized Geoparque Algarvensis.
