Festivélo festival to launch cycling support program for seniors

The ninth edition of Festivélo, a bicycle touring festival in Lausanne, will take place from November 6 to 8. A primary highlight of this year's event is the introduction of a specialized support program designed for individuals aged 60 and older who wish to explore the world by bicycle.

Program coordinator Edgar Haldimann Sandell noted that many seniors desire to travel by bike but may lack the confidence or a travel companion to begin. To address this, a special itinerary is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, featuring a presentation by a septuagenarian couple who cycled from Boussens to Japan. The program includes practical workshops where seniors can ask questions, find travel partners, and meet mentors.

The festival is open to all skill levels and will feature fifteen conferences covering various solo, family, and group cycling trips. Additional activities include free workshops on mechanics, sewing, and weather forecasting, as well as thematic discussions on cycling with young children and female-led touring. A dedicated space for children aged four and up will also be available.
