Fethiye tourist boat fire forces 115 people to evacuate
A fire broke out on a tourist excursion boat near the coastal resort of Fethiye, Turkey, on Thursday morning. The vessel, identified in reports as the ‘Imparator Atilla’ or ‘Toys Boat’, was carrying 115 people, including 103 passengers, eight entertainers, and four crew members.
The blaze reportedly started in the ship’s kitchen around 11:00 AM in Katrancı Bay. As flames spread rapidly, passengers and crew, including children, were forced to jump into the sea wearing life jackets to escape the smoke and heat.
Emergency services, including the coast guard and port authorities, responded to the scene and successfully evacuated all individuals to the shore. While there were no reported fatalities, 11 people were transported to the hospital due to smoke inhalation, though their conditions are not considered life-threatening.
The vessel sustained severe damage and was rendered unusable. Authorities have launched an administrative investigation and are working to tow the damaged catamaran to the coast to determine the exact cause of the fire.
