Feti Yıldız supports multi-bar system and lawyers' rights
Feti Yıldız, Deputy Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), has advocated for the protection of lawyers' rights to organize, specifically supporting the multi-bar system in Turkey. Speaking at the 3rd Ordinary General Assembly of the Ankara 2nd Bar Association, Yıldız argued that barriers to the right to organize must be removed.
Yıldız clarified the legal status of bar associations, stating they are professional organizations with public institution status under Article 135 of the Constitution, rather than public legal entities. He criticized attempts by certain bar association leaders to end the multi-bar system, suggesting that such moves contradict international legal principles regarding judicial independence.
Furthermore, Yıldız emphasized the ethical responsibilities of the legal profession. He stated that lawyers serve as a fundamental element of the judiciary and must prioritize justice over personal enrichment, noting that the profession is essential for preventing arbitrary court decisions.
