FEV, Microsoft Team Up on In‑Vehicle AI Using NVIDIA GPUs
FEV announced a partnership with Microsoft to embed generative artificial‑intelligence functions directly in vehicles, leveraging NVIDIA’s GPU‑accelerated DRIVE AGX platform. The collaboration focuses on small language models such as Microsoft’s Phi‑4‑mini‑instruct, enabling multimodal voice, text and gesture interactions that work without a constant internet connection. Local inference provides a robust backup for cloud‑based large language models, reduces backend infrastructure costs and allows OEMs to scale software‑defined vehicle features more economically.
Key use cases include autonomous driving assistance, driver‑monitoring for fatigue or distraction, and personalized vehicle and HMI configuration via voice commands. “Our collaboration with Microsoft and NVIDIA showcases how small, efficient language models can transform in‑vehicle experiences,” said Thomas Hülshorst, Group Vice President Intelligent Mobility and Software at FEV. Boris Scholl, Vice President of Engineering at Microsoft, added that the joint effort is shaping the future of intelligent, voice‑driven vehicle interfaces.
