Feyenoord takes Eredivisie lead after 2-0 victory over AZ

Feyenoord has claimed the top position in the Eredivisie following a 2-0 home victory against AZ Alkmaar at De Kuip. Goals from Nacho Ferri in the 13th minute and Javi López in the 60th minute secured the win, moving Feyenoord one point ahead of both PSV and AZ.

The match was marked by controversy when referee Danny Makkelie overturned an initial penalty decision for AZ after a VAR review. AZ striker Mexx Meerdink expressed frustration, claiming contact occurred, while refereeing officials and analysts defended the decision, suggesting the player may have begun falling before contact with goalkeeper Tjark Ernst.

Feyenoord's performance drew significant praise from analysts, particularly for the physical intensity and tactical movement of players like Givairo Read, Luciano Valente, and Anis Hadj Moussa. The victory sets a positive tone for Feyenoord ahead of their upcoming Champions League fixture against Como.
