Feyenoord captaincy choice and Ajax signings energize Dutch Eredivisie

Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst outlined his plan for selecting the club’s captains ahead of the upcoming season, citing input from former players such as Jean‑Paul van Gastel, Karim El Ahmadi and Pierre van Hooijdonk. He noted the pressure and visibility that come with the role and hinted that the decision will balance experience, communication and the growing number of foreign players in the squad. Supporters have also weighed in, with Luciano Valente leading a fan poll for the captaincy.

Former Dutch international Arnold Bruggink praised Ajax’s recent acquisitions, highlighting German midfielder Julian Brandt and Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare. Bruggink expects the duo to transform the Eredivisie, describing Brandt as a “spectacular player” capable of turning the league on its head and noting Arokodare’s physical presence and technical ability. Both clubs aim to strengthen their title challenges for the 2023‑24 season.
