Feyenoord goalkeeper Tjark Ernst faces technical criticism

Feyenoord goalkeeper Tjark Ernst is facing scrutiny following inconsistent performances, including a recent match against Telstar. Former goalkeepers Bas van Noortwijk and Edwin Zoetebier have identified specific technical areas for improvement.

Van Noortwijk noted that Ernst often employs a ‘handball style,’ standing with legs wide apart. He warned that this stance makes it difficult to take the necessary intermediate steps to reach the corners of the goal, thereby reducing his overall reach.

Zoetebier expressed concerns regarding Ernst’s reaction speed and diving technique, observing that the goalkeeper frequently adopts a split position that may not be effective when positioned further from the ball. While Zoetebier questioned the initial decision to recruit Ernst over other candidates, he emphasized that because the club has chosen him, they should continue to provide support and guidance as he adjusts.
