FGC L8 tunnel excavation to begin next week

Excavation for the FGC L8 tunnel is set to begin next week, starting with a 60-meter section to facilitate structure assembly. While initial drilling begins soon, full construction works are scheduled to commence in early 2027. If no incidents occur, the tunnel is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2028.

The project involves an investment of approximately 500 million euros and aims to connect the Llobregat-Anoia and Barcelona-Vallès lines, creating three new stations by 2032. This infrastructure will link the Espanya and Lesseps stations.

Following recent safety concerns regarding the L9 metro collapse in Sant Gervasi, authorities have implemented increased monitoring and control measures for residential buildings near the L8 worksite. A permanent citizen service office will also be established to address local concerns.
