Mexico City FGR investigates illegal mercury transport
The Attorney General's Office (FGR) has launched an investigation into the illegal transport of dangerous substances following the seizure of approximately 480 kilograms of mercury in Mexico City.
The incident occurred at a courier company in the Gustavo A. Madero borough, where a leak was reported after one of 12 boxes containing roughly 40 kilograms each broke open. Emergency responders confirmed the substance was mercury, which was subsequently isolated within a vehicle. The shipment originated from San Luis Potosí.
Authorities are currently awaiting a final expert report to determine the exact quantity of the substance. This seizure follows a separate incident in Querétaro, where 1.2 liters of mercury were found in a vehicle, leading to an arrest. The FGR is investigating the potential illicit movement of regulated materials.
