Mexican federal authorities conducted a series of raids in Tamaulipas, targeting illegal fuel distribution networks, which resulted in the discovery of an illegal wildlife sanctuary. During searches of five properties in Tampico and Altamira, including a ranch, a clandestine gas station, and a storage center, officials seized 135 exotic animals. Among the animals were five Bengal tigers, three jaguars, African lions, a liger, 21 spider monkeys, and several other species, including 35 that are classified as endangered or under special protection. The animals have been placed under the custody of PROFEPA for medical evaluation and specialized care.

In addition to the wildlife seizure, the operation yielded approximately 68,000 liters of diesel, firearms, vehicles, and various pieces of equipment used for the illicit handling of hydrocarbons. One person was detained during the raids.

In a separate crackdown on fuel theft in Hidalgo, the FGR seized approximately 173,800 liters of fuel and disabled six clandestine taps connected to a Pemex pipeline.

To further combat these activities, Pemex and the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) have signed a collaboration agreement to exchange financial and operational intelligence, aiming to dismantle the economic structures supporting fuel theft and corruption.
