Făgăraș Mountains experience early snow and freezing temperatures

A polar air wave has brought early winter-like conditions to parts of Romania. In the Făgăraș Mountains, specifically at Bâlea Lac at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, temperatures dropped below freezing, reaching approximately -2°C. A layer of snow about 12 centimeters thick was recorded following overnight snowfall.

Snow was also reported on the Transfăgărășan road, partially covering the pavement, though no major traffic issues were noted. In lower areas such as Câmpulung Muscel, temperatures fell significantly, with morning lows around 5°C and a thermal sensation of 3°C.

Meteorologists predict that while cold and unstable weather will persist in high-altitude areas with potential wind gusts of 60–70 km/h, temperatures are expected to rise gradually toward the end of the week, returning closer to seasonal norms.
