FGTS: Brazilian workers face deposit delays while Caixa announces profit distribution

In Brazil, significant developments regarding the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) have emerged, highlighting both systemic arrears and profit distributions.

In the state of Bahia, more than 500,000 workers have been affected by delays or missing FGTS deposits, with employer debts in the region exceeding R$ 450 million. Nationally, data from the Ministry of Labor and Employment shows that up to June, 11 million workers faced deposit delays, totaling R$ 12.6 billion in corporate debt. This represents an increase from the previous year when 9.5 million workers were affected.

Conversely, Caixa Econômica Federal announced that approximately 138 million workers will receive a distribution of R$ 13.04 billion from the FGTS profits. The FGTS Trustees Council (CCFGTS) decided to distribute 89% of the 2025 fiscal year profits, which reached R$ 14.7 billion. The credit is calculated by multiplying the account balance as of December 31, 2025, by an index of 0.01868341. This distribution brings the total profitability of FGTS accounts for 2025 to 6.9%, surpassing the recorded inflation rate of 4.26%.
