FGU Hovedstaden to receive government subsidy to avoid bankruptcy

Danish Minister of Education Magnus Heunicke has announced a financial subsidy for FGU Hovedstaden to prevent the institution from facing bankruptcy by 2028. The funding is included in the 2027 finance law proposal.

FGU Hovedstaden is Denmark’s second-largest preparatory basic education institution, serving approximately 550 students under the age of 25 who are not currently in education or employment. The institution has faced several years of economic difficulty driven by declining student numbers and high building costs in the capital region.

The proposed subsidy will be distributed over four years: 6.7 million DKK in 2027, 6.5 million DKK in 2028, 6.7 million DKK in 2029, and 6.7 million DKK in 2030. The goal is to provide financial stability and allow the institution to find a long-term solution while ensuring vulnerable youth in the Copenhagen area continue to have access to vocational support.
