FIA arrests suspects in Pakistan scholarship fraud and fake medical certificate racket

The Federal Investigation Agency’s Islamabad Zone conducted two separate operations, arresting four individuals on fraud charges. One suspect from Sialkot, operating under “Broadway Consultancy”, allegedly deceived students by promising admission to the University of Nevada‑Reno and HEC‑funded PhD scholarships, collecting about $10,000 per victim and providing forged HEC documents.

In a July 21 trap raid at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, FIA officers posed as an injured person and paid marked cash to obtain a fake medico‑legal certificate. Three hospital staff — a lower‑division clerk, a medico‑legal officer and a ward boy — were seized for issuing forged certificates that were used to file false police cases; investigators recovered counterfeit records, mobile‑phone chats and financial evidence. FIRs were filed under the Pakistan Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, and courts granted remand for the suspects.
