Max Verstappen battles engine issues to claim second in Baku

Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing faced significant technical challenges during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend in Baku. During qualifying, Verstappen experienced a major internal combustion engine (ICE) issue that severely impacted his performance, leading to an eighth-place finish. The engine failure caused a loss of straight-line speed and disrupted energy deployment, as the system struggled to manage battery levels due to the engine's malfunction.

To address the issue, Red Bull replaced four power-unit components, including the ICE, turbocharger, and exhaust system. While the team aimed to avoid an immediate grid penalty by using existing components from their pool, Verstappen acknowledged that a penalty is inevitable later in the season as they exceed the allowed allocations.

In the race, Verstappen delivered a strong performance, nearly securing a victory in a close battle with George Russell. Verstappen finished in second place, trailing Russell by just 0.196 seconds after a late-race charge. Despite the technical setbacks encountered earlier in the weekend, the driver managed to recover to the podium.
