FIA to target Red Bull technical loophole as Tsunoda eyes IndyCar
The FIA is reportedly planning to close a technical loophole utilized by Red Bull Racing regarding their sidepod design. Technical expert Craig Scarborough noted that Red Bull uses a floor body stay—a cable running along the edge of the sidepod—to allow for sharper aerodynamic edges while adhering to minimum radius rules. To prevent this advantage, the FIA intends to reduce the permitted radius near these stays from 20 millimeters to 5 millimeters starting in 2027.
Separately, Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda faces an uncertain future in Formula 1. Following a period as a reserve driver and limited seat time, Tsunoda may look toward the American IndyCar series for his 2027 season. As Honda is a major engine supplier in IndyCar alongside Chevrolet, it provides a potential pathway for the Japanese driver. Tsunoda is scheduled to test with Meyer Shank Racing at the Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama on October 26.
