FIA World Endurance Championship debuts in Barcelona
The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) held its first six-hour race at the Montmeló circuit in Barcelona. The event was added to the schedule as a replacement for races in Qatar and Bahrain due to geopolitical instability in the Middle East.
Drivers Daniel Juncadella, Alex Riberas, and Miguel Molina expressed interest in the venue becoming a permanent fixture on the calendar to expand the sport's fanbase in Spain. While the track is well-known for hosting Formula 1, the WEC's multi-class racing format offers different competitive scenarios on the high-degradation circuit.
Despite the successful debut and local interest, securing a regular spot for 2027 remains uncertain due to limited availability in the championship schedule.
