Fiat 500 introduces hybrid engine to modern generation
Fiat has reintroduced an internal combustion engine to its latest generation of the 500 model, a vehicle originally designed by Stellantis to be exclusively electric. This strategic shift follows changes in market preferences and the implementation of 2024 GSR2 safety regulations.
To accommodate the hybrid powertrain, the Mirafiori plant in Turin modified the chassis, which was initially built for electric use, to include a 37-liter fuel tank and an exhaust system. The hybrid version features a modified front bumper with a larger cooling grille to facilitate airflow to the radiator.
The model remains a compact supermini, measuring 3,631 mm in length and 1,684 mm in width, with a turning circle of 9.7 meters. While the electric-focused design remains largely intact, the hybrid option provides a more accessible price point for customers who prefer not to rely on charging networks.
