Fiat aims for 80,000 hybrid 500s as Mirafiori boosts production of new 500 Cabrio and 600 Turbo
At a media drive in Turin, Fiat Italy managing director Alessio Scutari announced the launch of a 500 hybrid model now offered as a cabriolet and the new 600 Turbo 100, a compact SUV equipped with the turbo‑charged engine recently introduced on the Grande Panda.
Gaetano Thorel, head of Fiat and Abarth Europe, said Mirafiori plant produced more 500s in the first five months of the year than the same period last year and set a realistic production target of 80,000 hybrid 500 units, roughly double the previous output, with a longer‑term aim of 100,000. The increase is viewed as critical for stabilising employment at the historic Mirafiori site, which has faced slowdown and layoffs. Fiat, part of Stellantis, reported global sales of over 500,000 vehicles and a growing market share in Italy (12.8 %) and Europe (3.3 %).
