Fiat considers returning the Punto to compete with Renault Clio
Arnaud Belloni, the CEO of Fiat, Abarth, and Lancia, has expressed interest in bringing the Punto back to the European market. The model, which has been absent from the lineup since 2018, is intended to reclaim market share in the B-segment.
Belloni noted that the discontinuation of the Punto allowed competitors like the Renault Clio to dominate the segment, especially following the exit of the Ford Fiesta and the lack of a new internal combustion Volkswagen Polo. The proposed strategy involves positioning the Punto as a more refined model focused on comfort and road use, complementing the Grande Panda.
Regarding design, Belloni stated that the new model will not feature a retro aesthetic, distinguishing it from the design direction of the Renault 5 or Grande Panda. The goal is to re-establish a duo of compact models that historically defined Fiat's small car offerings.
