Brazil auto market sees record sales growth in 2026

Vehicle registrations in Brazil surged in the first half of 2026, with a 20‑28% increase over the same period a year earlier. June sales reached 272,400 units, the strongest June in 13 years, and the year‑to‑date total hit 1.42 million, 18‑19% above the first half of 2025. Industry bodies now project more than 2.7 million new vehicles will be sold in 2026, a 7‑9% rise from the prior forecast.

Electric‑powered models expanded rapidly: 90,000 pure‑electric cars were registered in the first six months, a 196% jump, while hybrids rose 85%. BYD remains the dominant EV brand, with the Dolphin Mini and Dolphin together accounting for over half of all electric registrations. New Chinese manufacturers (Geely, GAC, Leapmotor, GWM) are increasing market share, pushing Chinese‑origin sales to 16.5% of the total market.

The overall new‑vehicle market outlook was revised upward to 8.6% growth for 2026, with more than 5.2 million units expected across cars, light trucks, buses and motorcycles. Top‑selling models for June included the Fiat Strada (14,303 units), Volkswagen T‑Cross (11,753) and BYD’s Dolphin Mini (6,457). The rise is driven by federal incentive programs, aggressive pricing and expanding dealer networks, with 8,401 concessions now serving the market.
