Fiat Topolino electric microcar launches in US but cannot yet drive on public roads

Fiat has introduced its Topolino electric microcar to U.S. showrooms, pricing it at $13,995. The vehicle, which can travel up to 19 mph (31 km/h), does not meet the federal Low Speed Vehicle (LSV) standards that require a maximum speed of 35 mph, so it cannot be driven on public roads.

Stellantis plans to offer conversion kits by the end of summer 2026 that will add a rear‑view camera, pedestrian‑detection system, a side‑mirror and raise the top speed to about 40 km/h, allowing the Topolino to qualify as an LSV. Until then the company markets the car for use in resorts, golf courses, private residential areas and other low‑speed environments, a markedly different positioning than in Europe where it is promoted as an urban mobility solution.
