Fiat Topolino sees unexpected demand in US golf cart market
Fiat is seeing unexpected demand for its Topolino electric quadricycle in the United States. Rather than competing with traditional automobiles, the micro-vehicle is targeting the $1 billion golf cart market, specifically for use in residential communities, resorts, and retirement areas.
Due to its small size and lack of standard safety features like airbags, the Topolino is being sold as a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV). Initial US models are limited to a top speed of approximately 31 km/h (19 mph). To allow for legal use on certain public roads, Fiat plans to provide a free Street-Legal Conversion Kit starting this fall, which will increase the maximum speed to roughly 40 km/h (25 mph).
Early sales have exceeded expectations, with dealers in Florida, Minnesota, and Michigan reporting rapid sell-outs of initial shipments. The vehicle is priced at $13,995 and features a 5.4 kWh battery providing an estimated range of 46 miles.
