Fiat unveils Grande Panda 4x4 concept

Fiat has unveiled the Grande Panda 4x4 concept at the Passione Engadina 2026 event in Italy. While not yet a production model, the concept serves as a modern homage to the original 1983 Panda 4x4, which became a symbol of mountain utility due to its compact size and simplicity.

The concept features a bordeaux body with beige accents to evoke 1980s aesthetics, paired with a more muscular design including a raised suspension, pronounced wheel arches, and roof-mounted auxiliary lights. Unlike the mechanical all-wheel drive of its predecessor, Fiat is exploring an electrified rear-wheel-drive configuration for this modern iteration.

The Panda 4x4 has historically maintained a strong presence in alpine regions. Data indicates that in certain mountainous areas, such as Switzerland and Austria, specific 4x4 and Trekking variants have accounted for 50% to 70% of sales. Its enduring popularity in rural and mountainous terrain is attributed to its lightweight build, compact dimensions, and ability to navigate snow and unpaved roads effectively.
