Fibromyalgia management advances through Brazilian legislation and research

Efforts to improve the management of fibromyalgia in Brazil are advancing through both legislative and scientific channels. In the Chamber of Deputies, Bill 5.978/2025, proposed by Federal Deputy Hugo Leal, seeks to establish Pain Clinics within university hospitals. These units would provide multidisciplinary care, bringing together specialists such as rheumatologists, neurologists, psychologists, and physiotherapists to prevent patients from having to seek fragmented services.

Simultaneously, scientific research at Universidade Tiradentes (Unit) is exploring new therapeutic avenues. Researchers investigated the effects of Africanized bee venom on experimental models of fibromyalgia. The study, presented at the World Congress of Inflammation 2026, analyzed how the venom affects pain, motor movement, spinal cord structure, and symptoms related to anxiety and depression.
