FICC declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Colombia

The International Festival of Peasant Culture (FICC) has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation in Colombia through Law 2544 of 2025. Originating in 1973 as the Culture Week in Tunja, the festival has evolved over five decades to include music, theater, dance, literature, and visual arts.

The new law mandates the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge to formalize the declaration and include the event in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It also authorizes the national government to allocate a budget for the festival's preservation.

In connection with the festival's activities, the city of Tunja has transformed its main plaza into an open-air art gallery. As part of the 'Nights of the Museums' program, monumental works by master artist Eduardo Malagón Bravo are being exhibited near the Simón Bolívar monument, featuring pieces that honor local history and Muisca Chibcha origins.
