Fichtelgebirge offers extensive mountain biking and hiking trails

The Fichtelgebirge region in Upper Franconia, Germany, offers diverse outdoor recreational opportunities, including extensive mountain biking and hiking networks.

For mountain bikers, the area features approximately 450 kilometers of designated trails. A notable route is the 171-kilometer Horseshoetrail, which traverses the region's characteristic granite landscapes. The network includes ten digital circular tours designed to facilitate multi-day trips through locations such as Bad Alexandersbad, Marktredwitz, and Bad Weissenstadt.

For hikers, the Jean-Paul-Weg provides a 174-kilometer literary trail dedicated to the poet Jean Paul Friedrich Richter. Running from Joditz to Sanspareil, the path features 161 information boards containing excerpts from the author's works, as well as historical displays from the Fichtelgebirge Association illustrating how the natural landscape has changed over the last 250 years.
