Fidel Castro and Diego Maradona mural unveiled in Buenos Aires
A new mural featuring the likenesses of Fidel Castro and Diego Armando Maradona has been inaugurated in the La Paternal neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Located near the Argentinos Juniors stadium, the artwork was created by artist César Fernández with support from members of the local Argentine Communist Party (PCA).
The project was initiated to honor the centennial of Fidel Castro's birth and to celebrate the friendship between the Cuban revolutionary leader and the legendary footballer. Organizers described both men as symbols of resistance and solidarity.
The inauguration event included members of Maradona's family, specifically his sisters Rita, Ana, María, and Claudia, along with two of his nephews. During the ceremony, family members recalled the personal bond between Castro and Maradona, noting the support Cuba provided to the athlete during previous health challenges.
