Fidel Castro biography presented at Cuba International Book Fair

At the 34th International Book Fair in central Cuba, journalist and author José Antonio Fulgueiras presented his new book, ‘La primera autodefensa de Fidel’. Published by Casa Editorial Verde Olivo, the work is a testimonial novel that explores a significant historical episode from December 14, 1950.

The book details a legal case in which a 24-year-old Fidel Castro acted as his own legal representative before the Tribunal de Urgencia de Las Villas. Fulgueiras notes that the trial, stemming from student protests in Cienfuegos, allowed Castro to challenge administrative corruption and police repression, serving as a precursor to his later famous legal defense.

The presentation took place at the ‘Manuel Piti Fajardo’ Military Hospital as part of the ongoing literary festivities. This publication marks Fulgueiras' fifth work related to the life and legacy of Castro.
