Fidel Castro's grandson likens Cuba governance to scientific experiment

Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, the grandson of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, has described his grandfather’s governance of Cuba as a form of scientific experimentation. In an interview with teleSUR, Castro Smirnov, a nuclear physics professor and researcher, asserted that Fidel Castro utilized a “scientific method of thought” to make political and economic decisions.

Castro Smirnov stated that his grandfather’s “subject of study” was not a traditional laboratory sample, but rather the nation itself, involving significant historical, political, and social consequences. He characterized the leader's actions as experiments that could lead to “irreversible” outcomes, referring to Birán as his grandfather’s “first observation laboratory.”

Beyond the scientific analogy, Castro Smirnov expressed deep personal admiration for the former leader, claiming that “all Cubans” aspire to emulate him. He noted that his own desire to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather influenced his perspective on the Cuban people's relationship with the legacy of the Revolution.
