Fidel Martínez releases new graphic novel on Francoist Spain

Fidel Martínez has released his first self-written graphic novel, ‘Regreso a un mundo en llamas’, published by Desfiladero Ediciones. The work explores the oppressive atmosphere of post-Civil War Spain during the Franco dictatorship.

The story follows Paco, an ex-convict who returns to his village after serving time for burning the local church during the Second Republic. Facing a society divided between survivors and opportunists, Paco struggles with his conscience regarding the death of a friend and the resentment of his neighbors. The narrative depicts the brutal poverty and social tension of rural Spain during the era of autarky.
