Fidelity Bank Ghana calls for improved systems to boost trade
Fidelity Bank Ghana has called for enhanced stakeholder collaboration, harmonized trade systems, and targeted institutional support to address structural barriers facing Ghanaian traders and entrepreneurs. Speaking at the ‘Breaking Barriers to Trade’ conference, Aaron Ameyaw, Director of Banking Operations at Fidelity Bank, highlighted poor data quality and fragmented customs systems as primary obstacles to regional trade growth.
Ameyaw noted that while artificial intelligence offers transformative potential for commerce, its success depends on reliable data. He cited the Publican AI System, which works alongside the Integrated Customs Management System at Ghanaian ports, as a positive example of technology-driven trade improvement. Additionally, the bank is utilizing robotic process automation to increase internal operational efficiency.
To support emerging businesses, Alex Agyei-Amponsah, Director of SME Banking, noted that the Fidelity Young Entrepreneurs Fund provides support to young people aged 18 to 40, with the age limit for women extended to 45.
