Fidesz faces internal challenges amid declining support for Viktor Orbán

Political analysts suggest that Fidesz faces significant challenges following its recent electoral performance, primarily due to the long-term legacy of Viktor Orbán's 16-year tenure. Analyst Attila Tibor Nagy notes that the party struggles to act as a constructive opposition because it must answer for the performance of the government it previously led, specifically citing failures in water management infrastructure.

Nagy further observes a decline in Viktor Orbán's political and intellectual standing compared to previous years. Additionally, the rise of the Tisza Party is actively challenging Fidesz's institutional structures and voter base.

Political scientist Gábor Tóka highlights data from a Medián poll indicating growing dissatisfaction among Fidesz supporters. The survey suggests that approximately one-third of Fidesz sympathizers would be willing to vote for a new civic or conservative party that does not include Viktor Orbán. Furthermore, 11% of supporters expressed a willingness to vote for a new party representing left-wing values, reflecting a broader fragmentation of the traditional political landscape in Hungary.
