Fidesz to hold October 23 commemoration at House of Terror Museum

The Fidesz party has announced it will hold its October 23 commemoration in front of the House of Terror Museum in Budapest. The party stated the event serves as a protest against “new communist tyranny.” The announcement follows recent administrative changes at the museum, including the dismissal of Director Mária Schmidt.

Zoltán Tarr, the Minister responsible for social relations and culture, previously announced the temporary closure of the museum pending a content review. However, it was later clarified that the museum would reopen and remain accessible in its current state while a professional review is conducted by experts and researchers from ELTE.

The restructuring follows a June parliamentary decision regarding public interest asset management foundations, which led to the dissolution of the foundation operating the museum. Its duties have been transferred to the Cultural Asset Management Ltd., an institution under the Ministry of Social Relations and Culture.
