Fielmann targets up to 100 new stores across Germany, Austria and Switzerland

CEO Marc Fielmann said the eyewear retailer sees room for as many as 100 additional outlets in the next five years, focussing on Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The chain already operates more than 700 stores in the three markets and holds a 57 % share by unit sales and 25 % by revenue in Germany, which he described as “the most competitive optical market in the world.” He added that the company does not anticipate antitrust problems and that larger acquisitions are not planned.

In Germany, the expansion includes opening its first Augsburg branch in the Annastraße, moving from its former location on Bürgermeister‑Fischer‑Straße. The new store marks the chain’s presence in the city centre and is part of the broader rollout of additional locations.

Fielmann’s chief competitor is Apollo, part of the EssilorLuxottica group, which runs about 900 stores in Germany.
