Fiere di Parma expands smart working to offset fuel costs

Fiere di Parma has announced an expansion of its smart working policy to help employees mitigate rising fuel costs. Starting in October, the organization will allow its 90 employees to choose an additional remote work day per week, providing greater flexibility alongside their existing arrangements.

The initiative aims to reduce the economic burden of commuting, including fuel expenses and vehicle wear. For employees traveling more than 30 kilometers daily, the additional remote day is estimated to save approximately 35 liters of fuel and 76 euros over a three-month period.

Beyond financial relief, the measure is expected to provide environmental benefits. Calculations suggest that 12 additional remote work days over three months could prevent roughly 570 kilometers of travel and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 90 kilograms per person. This approach aligns with recommendations from the International Energy Agency regarding the use of remote work to decrease fuel consumption related to commuting.
