Fietssnelweg FR20 construction begins near Vierarmenkruispunt, Zaventem

Work on the FR20 bike highway linking the Vierarmenkruispunt and Zaventem has started. The first phase, launched on Monday, creates a dedicated cycle path on the Steenweg op Mechelen between the Vierarmenkruispunt and Varenslaan, while the adjacent road receives a renovation. The works are slated to finish by mid‑October, with cyclists from Wezembeek‑Oppem using a temporary detour and pedestrians allowed to pass along the untouched side of the site.

Motorised traffic is rerouted via the Tramlaan to the E40 entry at Kraainem and then onto the inner ring road to the Vierarmenkruispunt. Future stages will add new bike bridges over the Wezembeeklaan, Oscar De Burburelaan, Alfons Lenaertsstraat and Kerkhoflaan, aiming for full project completion in early 2028.
