FIFA and UEFA engage in legal battle amid whistleblower allegations

Football governance is facing intense scrutiny as legal and personal conflicts escalate between major sporting bodies and whistleblowers. FIFA has accused UEFA of conducting a ‘misinformation campaign’ intended to influence the upcoming FIFA presidential election in March 2027. This legal battle stems from UEFA’s attempt to obtain documents regarding the now-cancelled FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project, which UEFA alleges was a secretive scheme to enrich President Gianni Infantino.

Simultaneously, Football Leaks founder Rui Pinto is facing a critical situation in Portugal. His legal team announced that his witness protection status is set to expire on October 10, leaving him vulnerable despite previous physical assaults. Pinto has recently renewed his focus on Manchester City, following the club’s guilty verdict regarding 114 Premier League financial rule breaches.

Pinto has leveled new accusations against Gianni Infantino, claiming that during his tenure as UEFA Secretary General, Infantino abused his authority to ensure Manchester City and PSG received only fines rather than more severe sporting sanctions. Pinto claims to possess additional documents that could further impact the legal standing of major European football clubs and executives.
