FIFA and AFC probe K-Football Innovation Committee activities

FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have issued an official request to the Korea Football Association (KFA) to provide detailed reports regarding the activities and discussions of the K-Football Innovation Committee. The international governing bodies are seeking to understand the committee's progress and ensure that the KFA maintains its independence from external or political interference.

The K-Football Innovation Committee was established following South Korea's early exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Led by co-chair Park Ji-sung, the committee has held several meetings to discuss governance reforms, including changes to the KFA presidential election system, such as expanding the electorate and implementing electronic voting. It also addresses youth development and the integration of advanced technology.

Under FIFA statutes, member associations must operate independently from third-party or political influence. While the current inquiry from FIFA and the AFC is a request for information rather than a formal sanction, the KFA is preparing a comprehensive response to clarify the distinction between the committee's reform efforts and any potential government intervention. The KFA intends to submit an objective summary of the committee's seven meetings to the international bodies.
