UEFA and CONCACAF demand $2.1 billion payout from FIFA reserves
UEFA and CONCACAF leaders Aleksander Čeferin and Victor Montagliani have issued a joint demand to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, requesting a one-off distribution of at least $10 million to each of the 211 member associations for the 2027–2030 cycle. The total proposed payout is approximately $2.1 billion, intended for football infrastructure and development.
The request follows the collapse of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) scheme, which aimed to attract private investment by selling stakes in FIFA competitions. The confederation leaders argue that FIFA’s cash reserves, projected to reach $6 billion following the recent World Cup, are sufficient to fund member associations directly without needing external investors.
In response to the dispute, FIFA has accused UEFA of conducting a ‘smear campaign’ against its leadership. Meanwhile, UEFA has sought legal authority to pursue a criminal complaint in Switzerland regarding alleged financial mismanagement by Infantino. The tension escalates as the March 2027 FIFA presidential election approaches.
