FIFA delays suspension for US striker Folarin Balogun after World Cup red card

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced that the one‑match suspension imposed on United States forward Folarin Balogun for a red card received against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2026 World Cup will be conditionally postponed for one year. Balogun was also fined $40,000, with half of the amount charged to the U.S. Soccer Federation. The suspension will only be activated if he commits a similar offence within the deferment period.

Separately, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was reported to the International Olympic Committee’s Ethics Commission over allegations that his handling of the Balogun case breached the IOC’s political‑neutrality rules. The report was filed by human‑rights group FairSquare, intensifying scrutiny of the governing body’s disciplinary processes.
