FIFA reportedly earns $5 billion from 2026 World Cup ticket sales

FIFA has reportedly generated approximately $5 billion from ticket sales and hospitality packages during the 2026 World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This figure represents more than five times the $929 million earned from ticketing at the 2022 tournament in Qatar. While FIFA has not officially confirmed the exact amount, stating that final audited figures will appear in the next annual report, President Gianni Infantino recently announced that the tournament achieved total revenues of $15 billion, exceeding initial expectations by $2 billion.

The significant revenue growth is attributed to an expanded tournament format featuring 104 matches, a dynamic pricing model where costs fluctuate based on demand, and a 30 percent commission charged on ticket resales via FIFA’s official platform.

These financial results have drawn intense criticism from fan advocacy groups and consumer organizations. Groups such as Football Supporters Europe and Euroconsumers have filed complaints with the European Commission, citing exorbitant prices. For instance, tickets for the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey reportedly started at $4,185. Some reports indicate that certain Category 1 final tickets reached as high as $10,990, leading to allegations that the pricing model effectively priced out core supporters.
