2030 FIFA World Cup set for 64 teams across six host nations

The 2030 FIFA World Cup will celebrate the tournament’s centenary with an expanded field of 64 national teams, up from the 48‑team format used in 2026. Six countries will co‑host the event across three continents: Spain and Portugal in Europe, Morocco in Africa, and Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay in South America. The opening matches will take place in the three South American hosts, while the group stage will be staged in the European and African venues. A contest is emerging over the final’s location, with Spain and Morocco both positioning their stadiums as leading candidates. CONMEBOL has already proposed the 64‑team format, and six nations – the hosts themselves – have secured qualification for the tournament. Morocco is also promoting tourism initiatives ahead of the event.
