FIFA has unveiled the Forward Enterprise (FFE) scheme, a $20 billion commercial vehicle that would sell minority stakes to private investors and raise up to $4.2 billion. The proposal promises substantially higher funding for the 211 member associations – from the current $8 million per federation to $20 million for the 2027‑30 cycle and up to $46 million for those that endorse the plan. FIFA set a deadline of 19 September 2026 for federations to give their support.

European governing body UEFA, together with CONCACAF and other confederations, have warned they will boycott FIFA events if the scheme proceeds, accusing FIFA of “selling the World Cup”. FIFA has responded that it is not selling the tournament, that the plan will keep control of the World Cup within FIFA, and that it will continue an open, democratic consultation process.

Indonesia’s football federation chief Erick Thohir backed the initiative, noting FIFA’s Jakarta office and its $1‑2 million annual contribution to Oceania and Southeast Asia.
