FIFA governance faces shift amid power struggles

The global football landscape is entering a new era defined by the intersection of merit, capital, and governance. While economic power in football is highly concentrated, the electoral power within FIFA remains extremely dispersed across its 211 member associations.

Recent tensions have emerged following an offensive led by UEFA against FIFA President Gianni Infantino. This has highlighted a disconnect between confederations and their individual member associations. For instance, Qatar has questioned the Asian Football Confederation's independent stance against Infantino, and while the Confederation of African Football (CAF) provides institutional support to the FIFA president, it cannot guarantee the votes of all African federations.

Furthermore, while Concacaf participates in the opposition against Infantino, Mexico has maintained a different position. This fragmentation underscores the complex struggle for control over both the financial resources of the sport and the governance structures that manage them.
